Rental Housing

A FEW OF THE WAYS THAT PCCA CAN HELP WITH RENTAL ISSUES

1.   Rental Pre-Occupancy
Clients are provided assistance with housing selection, rental procedures and understanding lease and rental agreements. They are informed of their rights and responsibilities as tenants and updated on landlord/tenant legislation. Information and assistance in applying for rent subsidy programs are also provided.

2.   Rental Post-Occupancy
Housing Counselors follow-up with clients to determine how they have adjusted to their new homes. Housing counselors ensure that clients are living under habitable conditions. They are advocates for those clients whose housing conditions are poor. Clients are given information about state and local laws which govern the act of withholding rent. Clients are also informed about their rights to deposits as tenants.

3.   Rental Delinquency
Housing Counselors advise clients on money management to ensure timely rental payments. Counselors also provide information about, and assistance in, applying for emergency financial assistance when necessary. Clients are informed about local and state laws regarding rental delinquency. If needed, Counselors accompany clients to tenant/landlord court hearings.

PCCA will make every effort to assist all clients with rental issues. However, if it is a complex case with legal issues involved, PCCA will refer you to "TURN" the Tenants Union Representative Network.
